Cuvier’s Gazelle
Gazella cuvieri (G. gazella cuvieri)
Weight:
Females15-20 kg; males
20-35 kg.
Habitat:
Occurs in a wide variety of
habitats in hilly terrain, including open oak forests; Aleppo pine forests; open country with a
mixture of wheat fields, vineyards and hill-top grasslands; and stony
desert plateaus.
Birth
Season: Mating occurs in
early winter, with births occurring in the spring (April - May).
Diet:
A browser and a grazer,
eating grass, herbs and shrubs. It often eats cultivated crops.
Threats: Hunting for skins, meat and as a
trophy, especially after motorized hunting with modern firearms became
feasible. It also suffers from continuing habitat loss, mainly due to
overgrazing by livestock.
